One of my lambs died today. It is laying on its side with its stomach bloated out through its skin. How do I tell if it was killed by a predator and then bloated like this or if the bloat was so bad it ripped the skin? I have pictures but they are graphic.

We post graphic pictures here, raising animals isn’t always rainbows and ponies.
We usually post a warning, then post the pictures.

I’m very sorry about your lamb. Things that might help determine whether bloat or predator would be last time you saw it alive, when you found it and how hot it was on that day. Also, what feed you give, plants in the pasture, clovers and certain legumes can cause bloat. Were they kept in a barn or dry lot, then let out on new grass?

To help your sheep keep from getting bloat, keep baking soda out.

Sorry you lost a lamb. Most of us have at some time. It's not wanted but, happens no matter our care giving.

Agree to all @Baymule said.

With heat, doesn't take long for these issues. Flies & maggots tell time trail, too. Yep, nasty, sorry. If no other injuries, you can eliminate predators.
