Could someone buy a few dexter heifers and cross them with a polled hereford bull and get some little Dexter Baldie calves?

Anyone? Pictures?

I was just thinking about that in bed last night.

I think a herford bull would be too big for a Dexter heifer. She'd have a hard time calving.

Yes, I agree, however wouldn't the calf be 1/2 Dexter and be smaller.

Can you get a baldie out of any other breed but a hereford?

Simmental, but that would also be much too big to breed to a Dexter cow, nor would the calf be small. You could try breeding a miniature Hereford to a Dexter to get a white-face calf, and still get a small calf.

Or try a Dexter bull with a Herford cow. Mini's would work as well.

Ok, I was thinking a Dexter heifer or a cow and getting a few straws from a hereford bull. Then after reading this last night night, I started thinking I needed to change to mini hereford bull over a few dexter ladies. Now, I am thinking about a few older pulled hereford cows and doing the cross with straws from a pulled dexter bull. Then repeat this until I would have a few Dexter Baldie heifers and then keep them and sell off the cows?

I would have a very small operation and want no bulls and would love the positives of the smaller dexters and the looks of the baldies.

Before you start getting ahead of yourself, which I think you have, you need to analyze how large an area you have to keep these animals. Hereford cows will take twice the area and twice the feed to keep than Dexter cows will. If you only have a small place, like less than 10 acres, you're better suited raising Dexters (or heck, raising miniature Hereford cows if you can get your hands on some....mind you they're a bit more expensive than Dexters are). And, are you wanting to do a cross-breeding operation on your place (most likely 2-way)?
