My two, 3 1/2 month old bucks have diarrhea this morning. They were not on a coccidia prevention plan and they haven't been dewormed yet, so coccidia is what I'm thinking. But they were just moved into a new pasture with new trees and forage to eat. Could that be anything?

Other than forage, all they are fed is grass hay and they are off milk.

I have Sulfamethazine oblets (Sulmet) can I give them those? Or does Cydectin or another type of dewormer treat coccidia?

I normally would get a fecal done but I am packed out showing my poultry and other goats at the state fair until the 25th (these guys are NOT at the fair), so that's not an option right now.

What color is the diarrhea? Green is generally dietary...while blackish / dark brown generally indicates internal parasites.

Cydectin and other dewormers do NOT treat coccidia.

Here is a list of the main drugs that treat coccidia . You could go ahead and treat for coccidia as they are the prime age range for it.

I would give some Jello (gelatin) packet mixed with enough water to liquify and drenched orally to slow the diarrhea (repeat in 4 hours if needed) while you're treating the cause.

It's dark brown. On the list there is a water soluble Sulmet. What I have here on hand is Sulmet in oblets (they're like tablets or pills), so can I just use that? Should I follow the packaging for dosage?

I just looked the oblets up. Personally I would follow the dosing schedule on the package. Repeat in 3 weeks.

Man, I just looked on the bottle and what I have is expired! :(

Where do you get Albon or Di-Methox?

Albon is from a vet generally so you can get just what you need...it's pricey. DiMethox liquid is online and you can sometimes find the powder at TSC.

I see that the TSC here sells the CoRid 20% powder. Do you have an opinion on this one?

Never used it. I know a member here who has great luck with it. If it's what you can find, then I'd go for it.

Thanks for your help. Will I need to repeat treatment after the first five days?

Also I want to deworm them, can I do that at the same time or should I wait until the coccidiosis is all gone?

I'd repeat in 3 weeks.

As to the deworming, give them a couple of days in between.
