Sorry for my ignorance. I have my first horned goat, a lamancha kid born June, 2011. She is growing a lovely set of horns, about 4-5 inches long now. AND they are peeling. The horn underneath looks new and shiny and healthy. She's a good weight, in all other ways seems to be thriving. I assume this is normal, but want to make sure it doesn't indicate a deficiency of some sort.

Thanks for yor help.

(Please do not make this into a debate about horned vs. disbudded. There are other threads for that debate. Thanks.)

Yep. They'll shed a layer as they grow.

Always make sure that they have a good mineral source to help maintain healthy horns.

Thanks! She has free access to kelp and mineral mix, as well as a crazy variety of brush. I'm glad eveything is okay!
