I try to keep feed in front of her all the time but when she is finished eating, she empties her feeder out on the ground by digging it all out. She has 3 week old babies that are also trying to eat the food.

Not sure why she is doing that or what I can do to stop it. The babies need access to food.

Oh, I didn't think about the natural urge to dig. hmmm. She has previously been in a colony on the ground so that is probably the reason. Maybe I should fill the cage with hay so she she can dig in it.

I've wrapped the feeder mouth with wire (being sure wire edges are safely out of reach and secured) which allows them to eat but keeps them from digging in. I free feed nursing does & kits and wire wrap as needed, but if others are wasting feed then I cut their ration until they get enough to eat at that sitting, without extra left over to play in.
