She's a sweetheart, but she's giving me a nasty headache this breeding season.

We got our buck around August 16th, figuring she wouldn't be going into heat that early. He acted interested and chased her around a bit for a few days, but she didn't stand for him-ever.

She still hasn't shown any signs of going into heat since then, save for mucous discharge a few days ago, and of course, now her teats are growing along with her gut (probably just from being forced to eat more roughage over grains), but not her udder.

And of course, Maverick still isn't *that* interested in her. All he does anymore is just rub her and walk off.

about the same age, a year and a half. She's already kidded once before, too.

maybe he doesn't " do it " for her.. I know that sounds strange but I have one doe that will Not stand for one of my bucks.. I am on my 3rd year trying to breed this doe to my one buck but she does not like him,,lol. In the past she stood fine for my other 2 bucks and he has bred other does. I REALLY want a breeding between these two,,lol.... She just does not like him,,lol!!

That's what I was figuring, but every once in a while, especially if I'm out there, she'll stand still just long enough for him to try and hop up, only to take off a couple of feet.

She doesn't act aggressive towards him either, more often I'll find them lying on the porch with her using him as a pillow.

It may be that she only likes him as a pillow, but even so, she certainly hides her heats pretty well. She always acts like she might be going into heat, but then she goes right back to normal. (I guess I should be happy she doesn't PMS on me, right?)

How's her copper status? My one doe who didn't get preggers but showed some signs of heats last fall turned out to be pretty deficient. She lived with the buck all winter. He successfully bred the other two does I exposed to him, no problem. I was stunned when her blood test came back open. (We'd had a rough year with family emergencies and I'd only cared for this goat in a very poorly lit pen after dark and before sun-up and completely missed the rusty thighs. She's jet black now and due to visit the new buck in a week or so!)

Just a thought from a breeding newbie!

Her copper should be good, I've got a mineral block with it (though, I will admit, my feeding is odd-alfalfa pellets and whole oats mixed, with alfalfa cubes on top until I can actually get a hold of some hay).

She's still discharging too, though some of it's clearer than it was before.

I can tell you from experience that even if you put out a good mineral, they can still be copper deficient. I use Sweetlix Meatmaker mineral which has one of the highest amounts of copper in a mineral and I still had to copper bolus my herd. So don't rule it out.

I may have to buy some on Thursday, but I'll be taking her to the vet first. She should have been out of heat by now, and she's still all sticky and drippy.
