My son was in the goat yard, didn't clip the gate and one of my does is adept at opening the gate. Apparently they helped themselves to some grain, not sure how much, but figuring they got a few cups worth since it was probably only 3 or 4 minutes before he realized where they were.

Now, since they are feeding kids, I've been giving them each around 6 cups of grain to keep up their milk production. I seperate the grain into two feedings, one in the morning and one in the late evening. They got their morning ration, but not evening, so I'm hoping that this will cover the evening feedling and not cause any problems. With that said, and not really sure how much they ate....what should I be watching for in case of bloat? They both were licking the baking soda this early afternoon. Is there anything else I should do just in case?

I would just keep an eye on them. If they are used to getting that much grain, they will probably be ok, they might get a little diarrhea or sore tummies and not want to eat as much tomorrow. Let them have the baking soda, and watch for signs of bloat--abnormally distended bellies, odd behavior, not wanting to stand up, not wanting any food at all, etc.

No worries, keep an eye on them, but I would say no worries...

Mine ate half a 40lb bag of show feed yesterday. Very annoying, and reminded me why I need to get more feed cans. ONse they find it, the first chance they get out the run right to it again.

They will be fine.
