I just bought a pig on sat, and her first day home was fine. But now when i get her out of her house its like her knees give out a bit. Im not sure if she comes out of her house on her own or only when i make her, but when she does come out she eats and drinks lots. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be going on? Or what i should do? PLEASE HELP

lets start with how old the pig is, what condition she is in, breed... what were her living conditions and what are they now. Do her eyes and coat look shiny and bright and dull?

ummm about 2 months, shes pink lol berkshire. shes in a nice big outdoor pen with a house for her to sleep, not to sure what she came from her eyes seem clear as for coat not to sure we had to mud her cuz we were hot and sunny the last few days and wouldnt roll in it herself, and for the next few days we are cooler and i dont want to get her wet.

berks are actually black and white spotted... however I would start with an iron shot, check the dosage by weight... give her the shot in the "ham".. she will not like it. I would also perhaps drench her with some fluids in case she is dehydrated, if she is only getting liquids when you lift her out of her pen she may just be dehysrated as well.

Hi Jackie and welcome! This sounds very similar to what our piglets did a couple of days after we got them. They are Yorshire. So very pale skin. Who knows if they ever saw the light of day in Penn where they came from. Then they were shipped up in a truck to Maine, where they stayed in the truck for 2 days.

We got them home and put them in thier area. After two days, they would walk and then all of a sudden collaps, on their front legs. Then they would get right back up and walk normal. They would run around and then all of a sudden do the same collapsing thing. They were eating and drinking fine.

Come to find out, they were sunburnt! Ahhh....makes perfect sense. So we were advised to make some mud and put it on the areas that were "pink" like their ears and spine area. A day or two of doing that and then we had some rainy days with no sun. They recovered just fine. Now the leaves are out a bit more and they have more shade.

Sounds like similar symptoms.

Congrats on your new piglet!
