About two weeks ago my dog got out with my Babydoll sheep. She tore a hole about three inches across in chest exposing what looked like the layer of fat underneath. I cleaned it out with peroxide and sprayed with Scarlet coat. It has not been healing and has gotten maggots in it so I called my vet today. The vet said to clean out the maggots with starting fluid, the ether smothers them out, then coat with wound coat. If you have maggots in a wound the works great, they came out of it right now when sprayed. I hope he gets better but no mention of antibiotics just keep it clean. He said not to use peroxide to clean after the first time since it will keep it from healing.

I would put iodine on the wound--it helps to dry it up real quick creating a scab. As for dealing with maggots, spray with a fly spray labeled for blow flies or screwworms. Because if there's maggots IN the wound, there are likely eggs laid in the wool AROUND the wound.

Good luck.

Well I got some iodine and screw worm spray and have been spraying him the last couple of days. he seems to be perking up and doing better. Pretty disgusting spraying the starter fluid and worm spray had the same effect, maggots came boiling out there was al ot of them.

Thanks
for your help
