Is it ok to feed alfalfa? The people I got him from said they feed him 1/2 flake twice a day, he looks great. But, I just read on the internet that alfalfa is a big no no to feed donkeys...confused. thanks, amy

Donkeys, if over fed will develop a weight problem. The problem is caused by nutritional defiencies...The donkey lacks certain nutrients so he/she eats more which causes him to gain weight. A donkey shows fat in its neck...once a donkey gets a "fat neck" it is very hard to get rid of and will eventually double over on itself making the donkey looked deformed. Our donkeys do not get the concentrate thst our horses get rather they get a very small amount of oats...Access to the pasture...Free choice GRASS hay....Free choice mineral supplement, a horse formula....I think Daisy is the perfect body condition...her feet need a little trim though.

Thank you, I will keep his intake light, maybe a alfalfa mix would be better.
