We’ve had chickens for about a year and just got some more chicks a month ago so I’ve been enjoying the BYC site. Now I’m wanting goats—much to my husband’s dismay—so I thought I’d join BYH! We also have 3 Holland Lop house rabbits.
We visited a local goat farm a couple of weeks ago and got a lot of information...and played with the babies! He had Nigerian Dwarfs and Mini Nubians. I am thinking about getting either 2 does or a doe and a wether. We would like to eventually milk but he said to wait until they are 2 yo to breed and that suits us just fine. I feel like I need to learn how to take care of goats well before I tackle breeding, birth, kids, milking, etc.

I am also very interested in Nigora goats. We have 3 acres but it’s mostly wooded, so the smaller size appeals to me for our yard. Because I’m a fiber artist I’m very drawn to fiber breeds. I know Nigoras are new to the scene but I wondered what my chances are of finding a breeder.

We live in north central NC. We have 3 kids that we homeschool. In addition to the chickens and rabbits, we also have a Corgi named Sebastian and 4 planted fish tanks with various freshwater community fish and shrimp.
