Droppings Board under hanging cages

I am currently building a Bunny Love-Shack. I am really excited! Anyway I read in "Storey's Guide to Raising Meat Rabbits," that you can use corrugated fiberglass panels as droppings boards under the top tier of hanging cages to protect the buns below.

My question is why would fiberglass be better than plastic?

I could see that it may be more durable but I worry about the fiberglass dust possibly created when scraping clean getting into their/my lungs.

I will be using metal roofing panels for mine. Same concept but better material.

I thought the metal would rust because of the urine. (I could be wrong)

You could paint the metal to protect it.
