Hello,
As you many have read elsewhere, we have arepreparing to breed our goats in the upcoming weeks and are thinking about drying our goat off around now. She has been milking since May of 2010 and was giving around 1 1/2 gallon at peak milking and slowly declined from there. For about a year we have been getting between half a gallon to 1 gallon every day even though half a gallon or close to 1/4 gallon has been a common occurence lately. We understand that we could technically wait until two months before kidding to dry our goat off but at this point there isn't a point to milk her when she is only givine 1/4 a gallon a day ( as of the past week or so). So how would I go about drying her off? Is there any special medication or infusion I should give her the last time I milk her? Thank you so much for answering yet another one of my many goat questions!
