I went out this morning to turn sheep out on the field. Middle field, 9 bred ewes, snotty noses, Rip was breathing heavy. Oh no! I called @Ridgetop . No time for internet, where she might not be on BYH for several days. I had penicillin and oxycycline. Which one? And safe for pregnant ewes?

And I was out of syringes! Needed to go to Lufkin 25 miles away to buy some. We discussed what would be best, Ridgetop said she would call @farmerjan for her opinion. Meanwhile, I’m driving to Lufkin. Ridgetop called and farmerjan said to use the penicillin.

Got home with syringes, read instructions on bottle. 1 ml to 100 pounds. I loaded 10 syringes with 2 ml. I can repeat for 3 more days. I ran ewes through the working chute and they each got a shot. Then Cooper too for good measure.

Last week, 4 ram lambs got out of their pen and into these ewes pen. I quickly separated them. Saturday I took Carson for a ride, saw some neighbors outside, stopped to visit, another neighbor driving by stopped too and we all visited and solved world problems. When I got home, those same rascals were out again, out on the field, chasing ewes and chasing them hard. I called them in, sorted out the troublemakers, reinforced their pen. The ewes were hot and breathing hard. Poor girls.

So they probably got overheated, it is scorching hot just standing still, much less getting chased. So summer pneumonia? Dunno, but I had help from Ridgetop and farmerjan.

My point is, get to know people here. Get to know people close to you, go see them if possible. If you go on vacation, and are close to a BYH member, it’s worth the extra miles to go meet a fellow BYHer. Send a PM, get acquainted, sometimes you need that immediate help. Get to know people here, it may benefit you.

Fingers crossed, sounds like whatever it is you are nipping it in the bud. And YES - BYH is the best we are blessed to have everyone here.

I will not forget how I was treated when Ron passed...PMs and phone numbers offered. I tear up just thinking about the kindness.

I ran the girls through the working chute again this morning, still snotty noses. They got their shot, 2 more to go.
:fl:fl Takes 24 to 48 hours to get into their system and start working, so not surprised to still see snotty noses... hopefully it will show some improvement after tomorrow... If you do see some improvement, you might want to do a 5th day as insurance...
How is their breathing sounding? How are they acting? Eating and all pretty good?
