We're 2 weeks into our first cria experience, and he is awesome!! He is nursing, but I will see him nibbling hay with mom and big sis? Is this normal, is this ok for him to do?

Thanks,
Sonja

One word - Yes :D

He may or may not actually be ingesting it. No matter what, it is fine for him to eat hay. He probably is nibbling on grass too if he is in a pasture. Congratulations on your new little guy.

That's completely normal. Crias start copying momma by nibbling at the grass and hay within a week of birth.

Thanks for helping! Kuzco is doing awesome. He's running around like crazy now. I see him nursing, but I keep seeing him nibble hay with mom and big sis. I'm glad to know it's normal, I was afraid he wasn't getting enough milk. :D

Sonja - I generally weigh my crias every day for the first (roughly) two weeks and then every other week for a month just to make sure they are gaining weight. We use our bathroom scale to weigh them. Doing that might help you feel better about Kuzco getting enough milk.
