Can llamas eat alfalfa hay on a regular basis? Also I was wondeering if there is a certain type of feed that horses and llamas can eat?

You do not want to feed your llama horse feed! Llamas (like sheep) are sensitive to copper.

You can feed alfalfa hay but they will get very fat on it plus it causes fiber to get course from all the protein and it wouldn't be as nice to use. I would suggest a good grass hay. Also, there is a llama feed so I would feed the llamas the llama specific feed. You do have to be careful of copper.

TSC sells llama feed, but not all stores carry it regularly so you might need to ask them to order it.

i just found this article on llamas and copper...
it states "Copper (Cu) is another one of the essential microminerals required by llamas and alpacas as well as all other animals and people to help maintain normal body functions."

Soooo now i'm totally confused. Please help me!
No copper totally ? or some copper but very little?

We stopped carrying it at our TSC (nobody was buying it) but we can order it if someone wants us to.

Have to say my TSC is very accommodating when it comes to ordering special items. Never hurts to ask at TSC. :)
