My daughter is raising more sheep for 4h next year but i need to get some hay now being so late in the year i am having a hard time finding it but found someone with oat hay, we've only ever fed alfalfa, so will they eat oat hay? or should i just keep looking for alfalfa, she also feeds them the show lamb grain mix, so will it be to much oat? i dont want to but it if they wont eat it, or get bloat. I also feed the alfalfa to our rabbits so will the oats be ok for them to eat also? thanks for any info.

Oat hay is a pretty good forage, but it can be high in nitrates, especially in drought years. Ask the farmer if he had a nitrate test done, or ask if he can do one or you can pay for it to be done. If the nitrate levels are ok, I'd buy a bale or two and see if they eat it. If they eat it, great! If not, you're only out a bale or two.

Yes, they will eat the oat hay just fine, however it will also be the most expensive bedding as they tend to waste quite a bit of it. If it was me, I would look for alfalfa hay.
