I've been thinking about getting some goats on the land behind my house. I'm hoping the landowner will give me a 3 acre lease but I already know he won't let me put anything permanent. I decided to use step-in posts because they are easy to install and can be moved=not permanent (I will be rotating area since he does lease to another lessee, he has cattle but the pasture gets overgrown with weeds by July making it largely unsuitable for grazing animals.) What is the best fencing plan for about $350 and how has it worked for you?

I think it would be extremely hard to fence in 3 acres with just $350...especially since you're going to be fencing in goats.

Are you planning on putting woven wire on the posts? Or electric? or what...

eta: nvm...I see you're going to rotate it. If I were you I would get a roll of electronet plus a charger and bam you have a portable fence for under $350.

I agree...lovely stuff and you can get the kind that have the ground wire as the bottom strand to keep you from having to sink a ground rod each time you move. A simple solar charger will charge electric mesh but you really need to maintain the fenceline or any weeds/twigs that touch the mesh will drain your charger and lessen the effectiveness of the fence. Same with an electric charger hooked to car battery.

We used the step in fiberglass poles with 4 lines of electric (wire strands) as our only goat fencing for the first 8 months. It works fine until the goats want out. You really want something that zaps them so hard they don't test it. You probably won't get that from a solar charger.

We have 10 rolls of the premier electro net. It works well.

I don't know...I used Premier fencing with solar this past spring and it had quite a zap. Made my dog scream~and I do mean scream~ and he can go through his electric boundary without flinching. After his encounter with the electronetting on the solar, I couldn't get him NEAR that fence!
