hope you get lots of answers. i'm watching your post. I want to take the plunge too. i'm leaning toward kune kune - mostly because of size issues.

I have read where kune kune do not root up the ground, good if you don't want your pasture torn up.

I used to raise Berkshire/ York crosses in 4-H!!! (for 7 years)

Berkshire are honestly THE BEST.
They're full of personality(like most pigs)
I've raised York, Chester White, Belted, and Duroc hogs, along with Berkshire.
I personally LOVE Duroc and Berkshire.

PLUS, they have a lovely lean, evenly marbled mild meat.
All the Berkshires I've purchased were long-bodied and had lean muscle mass.

I would also highly suggest Duroc hogs.
They have a great body shape and gentle personalities!

The Berkshire gilts that I've owned have always been incredibly friendly :)

LIKE ALL PIGS THOUGH -
They require a lot of time and energy.
All pigs are escape artists, so make sure you have the right fencing and shelter!

:)
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. HAVE FUN.
And please post pictures when you get them!
I'd love to see!

We have had a few Berkshires over the years! I have found them to be calm and relaxed which is nice (lol, it might just depend on the pig!) Let me tell you though, they sure can get big!!!
I believe our biggest sows we have ever had was 'Rosie' (Landrace) at 874lbs, and 'New Spot' (Berkshire) at 739lbs!!!!!! :ep
Good luck with your new piggies!!!
Have fun! :thumbsup

WHOA
Those are some big pigs!

I never get to see them that big...
I always have to sell them off once they reach 250-300lbs.
THEY ARE STILL BABIES :(
