Our first heifer was born at the end of April (29 I think). She is a Highland (mom), Angus cross. I was filling the water trough last night and noticed our bull sniffing at her hind end. Her mom is also looking a little thin compared to our other cows. If I had to guess a weight on her she would be 450ish.
I'm thinking she is getting to big to feed at moms anymore and it's affecting moms condition, also she needs to be kept from our bull. My thought is to put her in another pasture with a steer for now. Are my lines of thinking correct ?

We seperated them Friday, came home Saturday to broken fences. I was by myself (with my kids) & couldn't get them seperated again. But our bull was willing & easy to move over so for now that was the easiest solution. My wife is off on Monday so we will try again then, hopefully she (the calf)will have calmed down by then, I'm probably going keep her in the paddock area because it has wood fences that will be harder to break, for a while.
