Hubby wants me to get back into canning this year.
(Still waiting to hear if he's planning on helping me)
I think my house was designed for people who don't eat! There is really not much room for food storage. I doubt we will ripping out the wall and making my dream mud room anytime soon.
So.
I'm thinking about putting some shelves in my little tack/tool room?
It's basically a small building, with a double layer of thick plastic for insulation between the outside wall of 1inch cedar and the inside wall of 1 inch cedar?
Would it be OK to store canned food out there?
Should I worry about it getting too cold in the winter or too hot in the summer?

Does water freeze out there in the winter? Or does it get baking hot in the summer? If you answer yes to either question, I would try to find some place else to store them. Otherwise I would think, from what you have told us, that it should be fine.

I don't think water would freeze in there.
I won't know how hot it gets, until it's time to can!

It's really kinda silly, all this land and all these buildings!
No where to put a BIG garden and no where to store food!

I was just reading, over at TEG on straw/hay bale gardens. It sounds interesting and I may try a bit of it. Maybe it could work for you. Follow the link that's posted for Daves Garden. It was very informative.

Thanks Kitty, that is worth looking into!
The corner of my corral would be good place for a garden, sun wise, but ground wise, it's almost solid rock!
Maybe if we have time this year, we could cut and bale the nasty grass in one of the fields and use it for a garden next year?

That would sound like a good plan to me. Check out the link and see if you think it will work for you.

I checked out the link, I think it would work good here!
(OK, I looked at the pictures)
We won't tell the boys it would mean picking up more bales, putting up more chainlink and adding a new gate to the corral!
