I saw on here a week ago of a mixture of whole milk and other items to bottle feed goats. I've been milking the mom and then feeding the babies, but I'm not sure how much longer that will last.
We do the same. I some sometimes add yogurt or powdered probiotics if I think it is needed.20kidsonhill said:take a gallon of whole milk, pour out enough to add one cup of buttermilk and one can of evaporated milk.
some people do use just whole milk, I like adding a little more to it, to up the protein.
yes, I also sometimes add those things. As well as some honey, but honey is so expensive I dont do it very often anymore.ksj0225 said:We do the same. Thanks for that substitution with the buttermilk, I have always wondered about the non-fat buttermilk, that is all I can find. That never made sense to me. Will be adding some whipping cream next time.Renegade said:We posted this on the 8th:
We have raised a few bottle babies and found the best recipe to be:
1 gallon whole milk
1 12 oz. can evaporated milk
1 cup whole buttermilk*
*if you can't find whole buttermilk you can substitute 1/2 cup low fat buttermilk and 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
Pour off 2 1/2 cups from the gallon of milk. Pour in all ingredients and shake well each time you want to use it.
The kids that were raised on this mixture grew as well as the dam raised kids we had that year.
