Overrun with beasties
I'm surprised not to find a long thread on this, so if i missed it in searching, please link me over, if need be, rather than starting a new one.
we love our lamanchas in every way and have sold most of our nubians and crosses, but we loved the wild colors and spots we had in the nubian and others and wondered if those are typical in the lamanchas. of course it's a secondary concern, but how easy is it to breed the wilder colors back into my lamancha herd? we currently have two purebred does, a chocolate (w/white points) and a pure white. and a tan g-registered doe.
we currently have a black buck with white legs and belly and about half his babies look just like him! he produced everything from a pure white to a pure black baby and lots inbetween including cream and cinnamon even a grulla. we have masks and banding and leg spots, but no spot spots.
we're debating if we're going to keep this guy another season or go ahead and trade him out since we're keeping a lot of his daughters but the market for purebred lamancha bucks seems pretty tight. ...very few out there and lots of money for them.
I've looked for one with wilder colors and i'm not really finding much. so now i'm more curious about being able to breed more color back in my herd. are the lamancha really less colorful or am i looking in the wrong places? is my black guy likely to throw more color with the girls i have if i give him time? are there colors that are preferred and/or more or less marketable?
