ok so I have read a couple post here on fence types and the info conflicts.

we have acquired 5 goats. one is a miniature lamancha, no horns, female. the other 4 are boys, we believe 2 are some sort of Nubian with horns, and 2 are Nigerian no horns. when the vet came out he felt that the 4 boys were all kids, and not dwarfs. the Mini Lamanch is an adult as we spoke to the owners at the auction. they told us she is 3 months pregnant.

What we we want to know is fence type. 2 of the goats have horns the rest do not. I saw a post that said 2x4 fence the horned ones will get their horns stuck and should use 4x4 fence, then I saw a post that said the exact opposite. is there any reason why one could not use 6x6 cattle fence? it was by far the cheapest. oh and yes I do understand that woven fence should be used.

2x4 welded wire and 2x4 woven are different.
The welded, goats can get their horns stuck because the welds pop easily and they can strangle.
The woven is stronger and generally not many issues with horns getting stuck.

4x4 is typical sheep/goat fencing and works well but lil kids can get through (typically Nigie kids as they are tiny as well as pygmy's and some miniatures if small enough)

the 6x6 or the field fencing where the squares are larger at top and smaller and closer together on the bottom is the least expensive but goat WILL get their heads stuck. Goat kids can easily fit through as well as pups.

We have all 3 types as well as 5 strand hotwire... ask me what I am replacing everything with.. ;) (except for hotwire)
