Loving the herd life
Those of you who are milking your goats, do you have a way you separate your cream from the milk? I'd like to use the cream for various recipes such as sour cream, cream cheese, and butter.
We've gotten some cream without a separator, and made some butter. It's very good.michickenwrangler said:I have made *small* amounts of butter using goat cream skimmed off. It collects better if you leave it undisturbed for 5+ days. A cream separator works A LOT better. I don't have my own, but my neighbor has one and I pay her a few bucks for her to run it through. Since a new electric one is around $500, it's easier for us to do it that way. I don't have to buy one, and hers gets to "earn" its keep.
I've seen those and seen reviews on Amazon for the same. They're okay according to reviews.cjhubbs said:I have been looking on ebay and found some cream separators for around $100+. Who knows how high quality they are though yet maybe one of these days I will succumb and order one.
