we have the chance to get a couple of nigerian dwarf goat wethers. is it bad to use them for brush clearing by tethering them to a new spot each day? they will have a shelter and small fenced area at night.

Most agree that tethering is really risky for goats. They are kind of "steak on a rope" for any passing predators, as well as tangling/strangling risks too.

ETA: there are some who do tether though, maybe they will chime in

Tethering to mow a lawn can work if you have the area safe from predators (still need to keep a good eye on them though) but tethering to clear brush is nearly impossible. They will get tangled up around every thing. Even the smallest loose branch will become a major entanglement.

I tether my wether out for only a couple of minuets at a time because he is not used to and absolutly hates it. I would make sure that predators are not around and keep a very close eye on them. As for brush control i would say it depends on the goat, honestly my goats are pickey and only eat other shrubs when they feel like it.

Hope this helps;)
