We don't have the funds for a full fence for the section of yard we need a goat to hang out in so Hubs was thinking we could get a goat and put it out on a lead with a collar on the goat and a collar on a tree or something. Is this a fesable plan?

Personally, I wouldn't do that unless I was going to stay out there and watch the goat. I would be worried that they would get tangled up, or a dog or predator would come along.

But, with that being said, people all over the world tie up goats.

In my opinion this is not a good idea. My goats are tethered, but only if I remain outside with them and for short period of time. Getting tangled is a huge problem which could lead to serious injury or death. Also once they are tangled they are defenseless against predators. Goats are also herd animals so one alone is not in my opinion good plan.

agree with OFA i wouldn't be comfortable leaving one tied out for long periods to clear weeds or brush, they get tangled so easily. i had a buck who would climb a fence like a cat and had to keep him tied out but it was situated so that he could only go in a half circle and into his hut but not ideal but necessary. i had tried to tie him out and he would even get tangled in the weeds and would circle around trees till he couldn't move. he never had enough smarts to go the other and untangle himself. i finally gave up and just fed him hay and his grain.
