I'm getting two Nigerian dwarf goats next week. I have converted 48sq ft of she'd for housing. Now the opportunity has arisen to acquire two alpacas at a very reasonable price.

I'm sure they can live together, but please tell me it isn't enough housing for them for the winter!

The attached exercise yard is only around 600 sq feet and field fencing probably would not get done until spring, so they would all be on hay and feed all winter.

Doesn't sound like a lot of shelter space to me. I mean, 48 sq feet is a 6 x 8 space... I'd be afraid somebody would get left out in the cold!

That's what I wanted to hear! Trying to convince myself I must pass these up! It's just @ $200 each they are so tempting...

The 48 SG ft should be fine for two Nigerians, I know, just didn't think I could add two larger animals. Maybe another goat next year, but that's about it.

It's so hard to pass up a deal, I know! But, while your space should be fine for the two goats - I think adding the alpacas is pushing the boundaries.

agree with FEM, you just wouldn't have enough space for them all. there is always next year

You could always buy/build a bigger enclosure with the money you save by buying the alpacas now :duc:hide:smackNo way I see all those animals in the existing space...

Generally how I've done it as well. Just finishing the goat yard and the goats were bought two months ago, just not here yet.

Thought I'd try preplanning just once.
