I'm wondering if goats will eat chicken eggs. I am getting two Nigerian Dwarf Does and wondering if I need to relocate the nesting boxes in the barn so they do not have access to them.

I have goats & chickens but have yet to have a problem with the goats eating eggs...the bigger problem is keeping the chicken feed put up to keep the goats out of it when I open the kennel to let the chickens out to free range. And you'll know if the goats get into the chicken feed by the diahrea that follows!

They won't eat the eggs, but like TigerLilly said, they will eat chicken feed. Since chicken feed is not nutritionally correct for goats, you could have some problems.

Goats may climb into nestboxes and crush the eggs but I've never had one eat them... even when the chickens laid them on the ground in the middle of the chicken run where the goats were running around.

Chicken feed can be very dangerous for goats. You must keep them out of it - and they LOVE it so it can be a real challenge to do so. My Nigis could get through the pophole into the coop so we had to come up with a design to keep them.

I frequently find Lilly (goat) sitting on an egg that Miss Flufferbottom (chicken) laid behind the gate. So I guess I've got a goat that wants to incubate chicken eggs!

She hasn't crushed one yet!

Seriously though it's the chicken feed that you got to keep away from the goats. It's really bad for them.

So goats may go broody and try and hatch eggs, but won't eat them. :p Got it. We've already worked out keeping them out of the feed. Our chickens are free range anyway. The feed they do get will be way out of reach for the goats.

We had a way to keep the goats away from the chicken food but we still decided to keep them apart. The chickens were pooping in the hay and laying eggs in it and not their nest boxes and the goats would step on the eggs if they layed them on the spilled hay. it got real annoying!

I was planning on feeding the goat pellets, goat chow, etc. in the winter when they don't have the grass and other things available. But my fear was just that - the minerals that are good for the goats are bad for the chickens. So chicken food bad for goats - Goat food bad for chickens. :( I suppose I also need to keep the minerals and baking soda away from the chicken too. crap. I need a second barn.
