We were forced to butcher our 3 year old cow. She was a dairy cow mix. The vet said she looked like she had a broken hip/ old injury to her hip and gaining weight like she was was only going to make her worse.

She got to the point where she would sway from side to side on her back legs and with the vet coming out to look at her and saying she was in pain the decision was made to butcher her.

I found that in her uterus. Any clues as to how far along she was?

Don't know anything about cattle so I'm no help there.

Just wanted to say sorry about your girl and her unknown calf. Double sad! :hugs

Thanks guys.

It was heartbreaking. I was the one she liked so I had to walk her out to the area we needed her in. I went and hung out with my goats until I quit crying and then when I seen the size of the uterus and curiosity got the best of me, the tears started again.

The only thing that did make me feel better was knowing she was not in pain any more and I did spoil her while she was here.

So sorry--so young! I've only seen 6 or 7 month fetuses and they were about 4 times that size (dairy cow who aborted twins), so would agree with Brown Sheep.

This is the part that just stinks, and it never gets easier. The day where our hearts aren't heavy is the day we don't need to farm anymore. I hope you can take comfort in knowing you did the right thing for your girl. Sharing your story helps a lot of people out there also make those heartbreaking decisions.

:hugs
