Hello all. My wife and I ventured into the goat world about a year ago and I just found this forum. We live in Ogallala Nebraska, and have 2 toggenburgs, 5 Nigerian dwarfs (and 3 babies in the last 3 days) and 8 boer goats. We started with the Nigerians and then added the boers. We then got the toggs for milk production since I was drinking as much milk as the Nigerian was producing last year. We basically got the goats to be more self sufficient and have just focused on raising them for ourselves. My wife makes cheese, ice cream and soap from the milk. If our kid crop turns out like I think it will we may have to reevaluate that.

So far I've read a lot and have gotten some great ideas from the forums. I'm glad to get to be a part of this forum.

Welcome from Ohio! Have you had the Toggenburg milk yet? How does it taste compared to the Nigerian?

I have drank a lot of the toggs milk. We are getting over a gallon and a half a day. Compared to the Nigerian it's not quite as rich or creamy but has a good taste. I don't have any complaints about it. I gave my parents a quart to try and they liked it even knowing it was "goat milk."

The mozzarella cheese and chèvre cheese my wife has made is fantastic, as is the homemade ice cream. We also have cheddar and feta cheese aging now. Last weekend my wife used 11 gallons of milk for cheese and ice cream, and this weekend she used 8. She's also made a few cheesecakes and they were really good (too good actually). There is still a couple gallons in the fridge from last night and this morning.

The only downside to all of it is I may have to buy bigger jeans.

Greetings from the front range in Colorado and welcome to BYH. Many have said that Togg milk is/can be very "goatie" tasting or strong, so since you have Toggs and Nigies an evaluation and comparison of flavor would be greatly appreciated. As Norse asked above... Since I'm sure you feed them all alike, they share the same browse, and you most likely milk them the same (cooling and such), Is there any noticable difference?
