We have a small farm here in NW Illinois. We recently put up a sturdy pole barn and a oversize garage which is now "the spot" to be in the middle of winter. Pete built a pen for the goats at night, he loves them so much.
We are from Chicago though Pete's family has always had farms so he is well rounded in that area of animal care as well as a animal magnet, we are blessed.
We moved off of a family farm which was HUGE. We bought a smaller, more manageable farm. We have raised chickens, turkeys, peacocks and peafowls, bees, pigs, beef/milk cows/steers, goats, donkeys, sheep and a horse. What a learning curve it was. I would never have made it without youtube, truth be told. I learned to make butter from my jersey which was super great, talking about overcoming fears. I hand milked her, the first time I was shaking. Fannie loves me and tolerated me...love her.
I love to garden though this year we have to establish where the plot are going. Can't wait.
So, this year I would love to have my Nubian mated, I would like to make ice cream, cheese, etc., the world opens up.
I also have a great interest in einkorn, spelt and farro flour. This is another adventure that I am on...it is different, I think from all purpose - but so tasty.
So, if anyone is near the Dubuque, Galena area and are interested in joining in this ice cream adventure please feel free to let me know.
