I have Lamancha goats and chickens and am interesting in adding pigs. Everything we have read about Guinea Hogs sounds great to us. Also, our neighbors have some and they work well on our type of land. However, I am put off by the amount of inbreeding in every pedigree I look at. I understand that they are a landrace breed, so beginning from a pretty diverse genome. I also understand that they were on the Livestock Conservancy's critical list until very recently - and there just weren't that many individuals out there. . . so I think I understand some of the reasons for it, but I am still concerned about it. We are considering switching our interest to another breed because of it. I would love to hear insights from anyone who has experience. Do you just cull as needed and hope for the best?

I don't raise hogs, but I have sheep. I have bred sire/daughter, dam/son, twin siblings, and maternal half siblings. Plus I have lambs born from those crosses.

All are fine.

Hi Cara
We are just now headed down the path you where and I'm wondering what you decided and how it is going? Any update would be great.

Thanks
