Any help appreciated!

My three year old Doe has a palm size bald spot on her left front side. She was just weaned a couple of weeks ago and this has developed since. She doesn’t seem to be irritated by- I haven’t noticed her itching it or biting it. The skin is very dry in the area surrounding it but in other areas her skin is normal. Any idea what the cause is or How to treat it?

Thank you!

Interesting.....

My first thoughts with goats and hair loss:

1. Is she rubbing on something... another goat nipping on her, pulling out hair... something odd along those lines

2. External Parasites ... look all over closely

3. Copper deficiency... in which case that black hair would be growing in with some reddish tinge, her tail would have hair loss (fish tail), and there would be thinning around the top of her nose and eyes.

4. Oddly... never had it in my goats, but what you have there makes me think of the rainrot one of my horses got once. He had rubbed a little in one spot on his rump to thin the hair.. and it was a very wet and damp summer... and the spot got rot.. it was flaky and odd and slowly got bigger as the hair around the edges kind of rotted/pealed off. Not sure why.. but what you describe makes me think that might be what is going on.

For my horse I used one of the Schreiner's products.

Worked great.

Thank you! Your response is helpful. I haven’t seen this in any of my goats before either. I have 6 other goats and none of them have any bald spots. I’ll try to find the spray. It’s been a very wet year in my Canadian town so it could be rain rot.

Thanks again!
