I have a two year old fixed male goat...I have noticed some hair loss along his back and along the top portion of his sides. He does rub along things and tries to roll in the sand. He is out on pasture there is also a mineral block which I see him lick often and I also have the loose mineral as I was told the blocks don't provided the amount of mineral he needs. How ever I seldom see him use the loose mineral. I change it often so I know it isn't stale. I also have an other goat with no symtoms at all. Any idea's would be great. I don't have a vet that is handy for me to use...I need to truck him 2 hours to the closest vet so if anyone has some remedies I can do myself that would be great.

thanks so much:)

I don't know if lice or mites could be the problem. You might dust him with Sevin Dust or give him a IM shot in the rear back leg of 1 cc of Ivermectin per 110 Lbs. of goat.

I bought a bug spray for dairy animals and spray mine to keep biting flies and other buggies of my goats. I've never had any lice but I do know they are common in some areas.

Also you can PM Roll Farms, she has had some hair loss issues in some of her goats, her insight is valuable.

I dunno how much help I'd be...The one goat just went spontaneously bald ALL OVER, over the course of 2 days, we treated her for mites just in case and her fur's back in / fine now...the other had a reaction to Cyclence fly repellant (we think)...

You can have a vet do a skin scraping to narrow down if there's a bug issue.

I would say your goat has mites. pour on or injectable ivermec given orally @ 1cc/22lbs 3 treatments 10-12 days apart. That will clear it right up.
