We are bringing home a 3, almost 4 week old bottle baby this weekend to add to our goat crew. Her mother was not providing her with enough milk so she went on the bottle at one week. Her current owners keep her in the house all the time. We're looking at having her in the house for at least a day or two with a lot of outdoor time, but this will be the first goat we've had in the house. Have any of you had luck using diapers on these guys and if so, how the heck do I know what size to buy? She's a Boer/Nubian mix but honestly, she looks way too lanky to have much Boer in her. I don't have human kids so I have zero diaper experience lol

Where are you located?? A kid that age also needs to be intruduced to hay, water, and medicated feed, Do you want that in your house??I had a boer in house for 3 weeks, her mother died, she was fed vit D milk and then given her shots and at 3 weeks moved to a corner in the garage, it is not heated.she is too small to go out with the others, but she's getting use to the elements of the weather. you need to give her a 20 0z bottle 3 times a day and also at 3 weeks start on di-methox at 1ccper 5# the first day and then 1cc per 10# day 2-3-4-5 every 21 days. I've had no luck with the diaper staying on, but Roll does a good job. Good Luck with your baby and hope every things goes good for you.

I use USPS packing tape to hold diapers on, and others here have posted that they put baby shirts on the kids and then safety pin the diaper to the shirt to keep it on.

It's just NOT gonna stay on a wiggly goat butt unless you do something to 'stick' it to said goat's butt.

Thanks for the input - love the shirt and pinning that to the diaper idea. We figured we'd keep her indoors for just a bit. I think goats need to be goats but if she hasn't been outside I don't want to stress her with travel and learning what the outdoors are lol We were told she is eating hay now and I was going to ask when you thought we should start introducing her to grain. We feed Noble Goat which our other goats seem to love and in our area it's medicated so hopefully that will help some. Can I get the Di-Methox at TSC or a feed store or will I need to contact my vet for it? We were told she hasn't had any shots yet - but is that just because she's too young? I asked and her mom was vaccinated.

Also, she's going to be facing about a 2 hour car ride home. I know Probios is supposed to help with travel stress. Do I give it to her right before we start our ride home?

One more question (for now :) ) we were told she has a bit of a runny nose and has a cold but is almost over that. We're told she's strong, healthy, and eating like a champ. How do I know for sure this cold it's not something more serious. I'd hate to bring her home and find out she has pneumonia.

Thanks again for your help!

ETA: I found Di-Methox on the 4th try. My local Co-Op can order it but it will be in Tuesday. Hopefully that won't be too late. At that point I think she should be about 4 weeks old

If she were mine, I'd probably go ahead and give her a cdt shot 5cc, and then again 21 days later 2cc. Some give them again at 3 months i think, I also give pneumonia shots, but most don't, I would check her out pretty good, eyes, gums, and listen to that cough, probias probably not a bad idea, you can also give her 1/4 cc of bose, if she has'nt had any. If her mom did'nt have it or if she's weak. I love them in the house too, it just gets messy after awhile. good luck.
