Hello my son has a goat at his grandparents farm and when I was over there she seemed a lot skinnier than the last time I saw her. She also has a more rough dry coat. They are giving her extra grain to try and help her put weight on is there any thing else I can do to help her she does not seem sick. This is my sons goat so I will do what ever I need to.

Thanks for your time

I would have a fecal done. Make sure they test for the regular worms and also coccidia. More than likely she has a heavy worm load. It is best to find out what worms she has so you can treat her with the right dewormer.

Take a fresh fecal sample in to a vet. The usual cuplrit when rough coat is accompanied by weight loss is a parasite...however, it could also be mineral deficiency....or if she's young, it could be coccidiosis along with one or both of the other problems.

Increased feed will do no good if the goat has scar tissue built up on her intestines (from coccidiosis) or such a heavy parasite load that the bugs (worms) get all the good from the extra feed.

I'd start w/ the fecal check and go from there.

Good 16% goat feed, and a good goat mineral, and good grass or grass / alfalfa hay are important.

Good luck!
