I'm just curious how everyone heats their milk for bottle babies. Right now I'm doing it the old fashioned way of heating up water and then putting the bottle of milk in the hot water. I do also have a bottle warmer that you would use for human baby bottles to heat them up. In the past, other alpaca breeders just stuck the milk in the microwave but I know that does kill some good stuff.

By the way for anyone new, you should ALWAYS heat colostrum the old fashioned way. Colostrum should NEVER be microwaved.

I don't microwave any form of animal protein, for us or for my critters. It can be altered and I prefer not to. I just put the bottle(s) in a container that is deep enough to have the water go up to the level of the milk and run hot tap water through it in the kitchen sink. I will run the water for a minute or so, let it sit for a few minutes, and run it again. If my container is big enough, it takes about 3-5 changes of water and about 10-15 minutes. Not quite sure, since I am running around my kitchen at the same time getting other things done! Usually, buy the time I am ready to go out, the milk is 105*. My tap water comes out of my kitchen faucet at 120*. If I am in a hurry, I'll nuke a mug of water to add to the container.

I nuke the bottles.

We had to get a new microwave a couple years ago. I popped 2 bottles in it and set it for 2 minutes like always, NOT taking into account that the new microwave would work WAY better / faster.

What a mess...and who knew bottles would bend when they get too hot......

Found out the hard way that nuking for 1 minute is plenty in this one. :)

I try to only mix as much replacer as I need for each feeding, and just use warm water to make it. If I have leftovers, I just put it in the microwave and make sure I don't overheat it. Then I shake well and feed.

I use hot tap water or I put the bottles in a pot of water on the stove.
