I haven't seen movement in mine for weeks now... temps at or below freezing most of the time, but feels warmer when the sun is beating down. I guess we have had a couple of days in the 40s... But I still have a lot of snow cover and it's snowing again right now lightly. No idea how much accumulation we should get...
On a sadder note, I am all out of honey I used the last of it last week. Maybe I should have been a hoarder and not given away what I did <sigh> Oh well, hopefully this year will be even better Happy new year!
happy - It had gotten above 40°around the hives... they are on the south side of a large cinderblock building. It's a nice microclimate there. Today they were flying at 43 and cloudy. There were several dead bees around each of the landing boards, and a few dead larva too. So they are cleaning up from the cold snap.
Oh bummer on running out of honey. I hoard enough of mine to keep me in honey until the next harvest. I gave some away from my first harvest, but last years wasn't enough to give any away.
The past few days, I've been enjoying going up to the hives and watching them bringing in pollen. Now we are back to rain for the next week, so they will be stuck inside.
Got into the low 50°s today, sunny. All 8 boxes had a monty python theme going "Bring out yer dead!" so I'm going to trust that everything is good and they are just doing normal housekeeping.
That's funny Maggiesdad. I hope all is well inside.
Have you been sick Latestarter? Glad you are feeling better.
My hives are starting to brood up. The little one from the split has more population now (obvious from just looking down the frames last time I peeked), which they really needed. The manzanita is starting to get buds and my fruit trees are starting to bud, so it won't be much longer now. The advantage of living in a warmer climate, you get to sneak a peak more often.
