Good day everyone and happy New Year! Gram and I are a couple 70ish folks who‘ve been up here for almost 30 years now and are primarily organic gardeners. During our younger years we kept sheep, chickens, pigs etc when we lived on the farm in N. Dakota so we’re not green to the subject.
Currently im putting the finish touches on our new rabbitry. We’ll be raising Champagne d-Argent’s who are scheduled to arrive in mid April. I might be the only guy in the state who’s primary goal is the manure, yea we’ll eat them as well but i need a poop source to round out my compost set-up.
We’re not experts at any particular thing, however we have lived some good stories and will do our best to find a niche and settle in.

this is a shot of the new digs, 4 holes total with wall penetrations allowing them outside access as well.

Welcome from Ohio! Wow, Alaska. That's the one place I've always wanted to visit the most. I hope I get the chance one day. :)

Well, thanks folks for the compliments, im not sure either one of us is an artist. That’s the first thing i ever painted. more of a fun thing than anything else, heck the bunnies probably think im michael angelo, not!

The rest of this project is a 12 by 20 storage shed that i built this fall. Keeping a few rabbits was always on the horizon but not possible until i retired a couple years ago. My work was at a remote site where id spend 2 weeks at a time then home for 2 weeks! Pretty sweat in a lot of ways but not conducive to livestock.

I have good local Timothy hay but have to ship the organic pellets in making this project a bit pricy. Early on while counting the cost i concluded the manure will offset the also pricey soil amendments i buy each year for the garden so it’s a wash. Along the way i get to eat all the rabbit i want too!

i picked up 3 “test bunnies’ off Alaska List the other day to observe and determine how they do in the new digs. All systems are go and the poop’s starting to flow.
In the spring i’ll hang a 3ft by 12 ft. Cage under the eve and make the wall penetrations, allowing each bunny another 3X3 section outside.

here’s a couple more shots of the project.

At some point id imagine they’ed like me to take this elsewhere, and not just ramble on in the introduction section. So, after looking over the forum sections i’ believe the “Natural and Organic Husbandry“ forum nest describes us.
i’ll move over there and invite anyone who’s interested to give us a look from time to time.
Thanks for the warm welcomes!
