Hi all, I live on Vancouver Island and found this site through the chicken forum, who knew?? 
after 35 years I've finally gotten my acreage, even though hubby isn't enjoying it today as he has lost the power to the hayshed that he was converting to a chicken coop.
he was doing so well in the progression of the coop, today has now set him back.
we are definitely not electricians, hmmm, maybe it will be an easy fix.
we have just bought a house on 2 acres and I'm hoping to turn it into a nice and fun hobby farm for me and the kids.
we are going to get a dozen egg laying hens for my daughter to raise, with her mums help of course, she also wants a couple of fancy hens and a rooster so that she can see the hens brood and babies hatch etc.
they obviously will have seperate houses and runs.
next spring I'd like to get two goats (pygmy), about 4-6 ducks, a family horse (might be a year or two before that), maybe two mini horses, a rabbit and maybe , just maybe a dairy calf (boy) to love on and keep as a pasture pet. I love cows, especially the dairy ones. I find the stories of the boy dairy calves sad, and would love to save one. I have a big soft spot for the critters and rescues.
I own two rescue dogs, a cat and some fish at the moment.
Looking forward to scouring all the questions etc here and learning a bunch, great forums.
