Hi Everyone!

I just joined the forum yesterday afternoon- I have been lurking for a about week reading a lot of the posts. I saw what a friendly and helpful group was here so got the nerve up to join.
I've already been getting a lot of good advice from Bridgemoof and SheepGirl.

On Good Friday I became the foster mom to a Gulf Coast Native ewe lamb- she was less than 12 hours old. I was not raised on a farm, I have never had any experience with sheep at all- but she was just going to be left to die at the living history museum where I work, they were just going to let Nature take its course. Her mother gave birth to twins and only had enough milk for one lamb.

So I brought the baby lamb home and she has become a real part of our family.

She has had some major health problems- she developed Navel Ill and then it went into a mild form of Joint Ill. I found a really great local livestock vet and the lamb has been on a series of antibiotic shots- she began her forth round yesterday. As of this a.m. her temp still is 103.6

Well, that's the situation I am dealing with. So glad to join this forum- I've been clueless what to do with caring for her, but this forum is a great asset.

All the best to everyone!

Sandy

Are you planning to keep the lamb long term? You may want to consider getting it a friend.

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for the greetings!

I live in a small town, I don't know if I will be allowed to keep her. We do have large double lot backyard that is totally fenced in and surrounded by a high privet hedge fence- so at the moment she is one the lamb... forgive the pun! I have played with it in my mind telling my neighbors (who are equally farm ignorant as I am) that she is odd mixed breed dog...
When I have taken her out- people first think she is a dog. Why those ears don't give her away, I haven't a clue!

If a miracle occurs and I can be allowed to keep her I would love to get her a buddy. But I am trying to face the fact that I very possibly will have to give her up. I get teary just thinking about that. Right now, I try to stay focused on getting her well and over this long term high fever.

Here is her picture taken just a few days ago:

Thanks for making me feel so welcome!
