I am not a farmer or rancher, although I wish I was. I just purchased my first "herd animals". 2 bottle baby doe goats. One Nigerian Dwarf and 1 mini Nubian.
My husband and I are empty nesters, at least of the human kind. We have always wanted a "Hobby Farm". We have had chickens for over 8 years, along with a dog, 5 cats, 3 parrots, a rescued lion head rabbit and our now our baby goats. We got them to raise and, hopefully have our own milk and cheese by next fall.
Next on our list are a few ducks, a couple geese and eventually a couple miniature horses, and a miniature donkey (or 2)

Welcome from North Carolina
I'm sure you will find having goats very rewarding.

Hello there and welcome to BYH!

Sounds like you have some fun critters to add to your nest! What kind of parrots do you keep? I used to keep Lovebirds and Cockatiels. They have all since passed on from old age, but I miss having them around the house. They sure do add to the family!

Hi BeverlyC, I'm also in Michigan and looking around trying to figure out this site. I've been on BackyardChickens for a long time, but then I found this herd site and joined when I got my first hog. I DIDN'T like what he did to the small yard tho he was a lovely animal and so cute, intelligent and funny. I ended up raising 2 hogs, one for the freezer and the other just cuz he needed a home, I rehomed the second one.
I am (hopefully) going to be a new Mom to a couple baby Old English Babydoll sheep next spring, sending out my payment for them tomorrow but have to wait on delivery.
I'm in MID-Michigan, near Saginaw Bay. My husband was a long time Charter Boat Captain but is retired now, thus my pic.
I hope to learn how to spin yarn from my new babies fiber. Looking forward to this. I have a dozen various breeds of chickens.

A big welcome and howdy from the Great Lone Star State, where the stars at night are big and bright! Wander over here and grab a beverage of choice off of that yonder table and come sit a a spell. Prop you feet up, that's just fine... don't mind that dog, he's still a pup. Sounds like you have a good start on your animal collection. I'm giving a big second and thumbs up to the request for pictures, when you get a chance. We all just love seeing how other folks do for their animals.

Glad you found us!

:frow And another [belated] welcome from the big state of Texas, where the skies are usually beautiful, brilliant blue with puffs of clouds & the stars are AMAZING!

DH & I are also "empty nesters" with chickens & goats. Its a lot of hard work. But we love it!

I'm with animalmom. Post lots of photos. Its the next best thing to being there.

Once again . . . :frow:welcome :frow
