I’m pretty new with farming or farm animals as well. I grew up in the country but not on a farm. My husband is pretty comfortable farming as he’s helped his grand-dad when he was young. He’s been raising pigs for two years now with his dad. I’ve only been raising goats since late last September. I grew up with pet rabbits, never bred them before though. I’d love to share stories with you.
I'd love to know more about rabbits :D

THANK YOU!
Both axolotls are doing great! I've always wanted them, ever since I was a child and saw them for the first time in a family restaurant. I never thought I would know someone that knew what they were let alone knowing a person that bred them!
I hope to raise them some day myself
My husband and I have recently started talking about rabbits, I only mention this to you because I see your name. :D It looks like you are a bunny person. I was originally thinking goats or sheep were the way to go for fiber... but I have been researching and I'm leaning towards angora rabbits now. As it would be a gradual step into raising animals for fiber.
I've always wanted an Axolotl but where I lived before It wasn't legal to own them! But now that I moved i'm 'allowed' to have them and i'm trying to get everything set up for one!
And yes! I raise Holland Lops :) I would definitely suggest raising angoras for fiber...my mother raises them and it's amazing how much fiber they give! And it's much easier to harvest their fiber then from a sheep or goat. Plus they're super sweet rabbits. The German and English seem to have the best temperaments but I've seen a few French angoras who were sweet ;)
There are lots of great sheep/goats for fiber too but rabbits are easier to keep and take up less space.
What kind of angora are you thinking of raising?

I hope you get the chance to have some axolotls soon :D We haven't decided on a breed yet. I was looking into the French (do to the cleaner face) but I'm thinking German Angoras might be a better choice for now. I do want them for fiber after all :D
I don't know how many I should start out with though. Or what genders. I'm in a FB group now though too so I can HOPEFULLY find someone that sells these beautiful rabbits in MN or surrounding states. I'm not sure if it is ok to ask on this site for sales near MN or Where to ask for that info at either. I'm not very good with forums ^^;

Germans are a great choice if you want a LOT of fiber! But they are pretty pricey.
When just starting out I would recommend getting 3-4 does and one buck...preferably a proven buck and does around 6-8 months old or proven does. That way you'll have rabbits for fiber and you can start breeding sooner than later :)
But if all you can find (I know angoras can be hard to come by) are young babies around 8 weeks then you'll have to wait until they are around 6-8 months old to breed them and their adult coat/fiber won't be ready for a while.
With English angoras, they naturally 'blow their coat' 3-4 times a year and all you have to do to harvest it is brush them or gently pull the hair and it'll come right out. But with French angoras, you do have to either scissor or shear their coats to harvest the fiber. I'm not 100% sure about the Germans...but I think they do naturally molt and blow their own coats like the English :)
About rabbits for sale, i'm not exactly sure if you can ask on here to be honest as this is my first-ever forum ha ha!
I'll look and see what I can find for breeders and i'll post the links here if I find any :)
