Greetings and welcome to BYH from Tn! So glad you joined us. Look around and see what interesting stuff you can find. You'll get to "meet" folks at the same time. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Oh, and we all love pics, so post them anytime you feel the need! Please make yourself at home!
PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me will never remember from this post & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!

Hi! We are in the Tyler Texas area. We have Katahdin/Dorper ewes and a registered Katahdin ram. We also have chickens, 4 horses, 3 dogs and the occasional pig for the freezer. We are on 8 acres.

Glad that you are here, jump in, we are a friendly bunch. Post pictures, we love pictures!

Incidentally, getting animals before you have structure in place is a BYH habit, that is what most of us do. You will fit in just fine around here. LOL

:frow :yuckyuck :frow Welcome from NE Texas.

Where are you located. We have members all over the country and you just might have another BYH member near you.

You said you just got your little girl. Do you know if she go a CDT immunization at 4 weeks? If not, she would need one ASAP. Then a 2nd shot would be needed at 8 weeks.

As Goat Whisperer said, goats are herd animals and need at least one other goat, to keep them company?

You said you are feeding her three times a day. How much are you giving her at each feeding? I have LaMancha goats, which are bigger than Nigerian Dwarfs, so I am not sure how much each feeding should be. However, I think there is a limit to how much should be given at each feeding, so the kid doesn’t get fat or have rumen issues. I would think @Southern by choice might be another good one to ask about that.

Something else to consider is getting at least one LGD (Livestock Guardian Dog), to protect your goats. Of course depending on where you live, your predator load might be better or worse. Here, in TX we have a lot of coyotes, and we need LGDs to protect our goats. We have a side benefit, in that our LGDs keep the hawks and vultures away from our chickens. :jumpy
