Hi!! Some of you may know me from Backyard Chickens. I became a member of BYC a long time before I actually had a coop and chickens. (Due to my husband not wanting any chickens, EVER!)

Well, in Sept. of 2008, I got 4 chicks!!

Here is a link to my coop page on BYC

And they are now quite nice laying hens!!

Recently a friend of mine got some goats.
And I have begun to learn how to milk a goat.
Something a person named "Heidi" really ought to know how to do!!

Now, I need to work on my husband on "needing" my own milk goat.
I can't have it here at home... but... I know I can keep one with my friend's goats.

I am

of ways that I can make him see it would be a really good idea to have our own goat.

I will keep you posted on how it goes!!

:welcome I'm bob from Maine and I've got a son living in Tucson. Last summer we bought a beautiful Alpine wether and by the end of summer we had 4 goats, 2 wethers and 2 females. Both females may be pregnant and we are looking forward to a late May delivery, we hope.

All four goats are doing much better as a herd, so if you get one consider getting two to keep each other company. Best of luck in getting a milk goat they are wonderful animals.

That sounds exactly like my friend Robin! They got one goat last year, she had three kids! Two were males, which they recently butchered. And they bought two more females. So, now they have four females (in case you hated math "story"problems) of which three are pregnant at the moment!!

So........ my thinking, is I could easily get a female kid, and keep it with their herd. The goats are being housed at a private school here that loves having the children get experience with farm animals. The great thing is, this place is only about one mile from my house. Very convient. It will be an added responsibility for sure.

Sounds like my husband. We started buying goat milk from a neighbor. Then we were buying so much a week, she told us we had to get our own goat--we could keep it with her goats, we just needed our own. So after asking (more than once I may add), he allowed me to get ONE. Well, in order for her to freshen, she has to be bred ... so now we have 3. Keep at him. ;)
