Hey all!
So after wanting goats for years we just bought our first bottle kids, one set of twins and another sibling set. The twins are 8 weeks and the brother/sister set are 9 weeks old. One of the twin boys is simply refusing to take a bottle. The woman we bought them from has had trouble with him from the start, his brother does good, sucks well and eats all of it no issues. The previous owner said that he was a major mommas boy..
He eats his little bit of grain wonderfully (we’re only feeding a small handful about 2oz) twice a day as that was what previous owner advised and we wanted to stick to their same schedule. He also eats loose mineral well and has really come around and made wonderful progress being friendly, playing with us and interacting more and more each time we go out to the pen.
But I’m starting to get worried about him not taking a bottle.. I’ve forced the bottle in his mouth and finally gotten him to get a little bit of replacer but he doesn’t suck he just chews and spits it back out. Any suggestions on what Icould do to help him?? I am totally new to goats only had calves growing up and that was years ago so this is uncharted territory for me.

What breed? If they are small, like Nigerians or Pygmy's I wouldn't even worry about the bottle. At 8 weeks and eating grain, he'll be fine without taking a bottle. A larger breed generally stays on the bottle a little longer - but again - if he rebels and is eating - he should be ok.

Another consideration - was he on replacer before? You can raise goat kids just fine on whole cows milk.

Good luck! Welcome to the forum!

They are Nigerians, guess that would have been helpful of me to state earlier lol!
I had no idea whole milk was an option until today that is something very good to know! And yes they were on a replacer before we picked them up but I will definitely remember that tip for future needs! That definitely eases my mind, Thank you so much!
