Hello everyone, I am on the backyard chicken forum as well and was sent to this sister site. I was looking for other farm forums to get connected with because I do not do social media. I am very new to the farm life and am currently raising 4 goslings and I have 16 chicks coming next week from Murray McMurray. I plan to eventually get pigs, goats, and all the farm animals eventually 🤣. Glad to be in here with you all

Welcome from east Texas! How many acres is your farm?
Go to the forums for the animals you want for your farm and start reading the posts. There is lots of good information in the forums. Feel free to ask questions, studying the forums may bring up issues you don’t know about .
Pigs. Feeder pigs are a great way to get your first pigs. Buy young pigs and raise them up to slaughter size.
Goats. Dairy or meat? Different breeds to choose from!

We bought just under 60 acres of land in northeast Indiana last year. My first time ever living in the country but ready for the homestead life. It's about 34 acres woods (we hunt) and 22 acres field which I want to do regenerative farming on. We would like a combo of goats really, not sure which ones you would use to help clear undergrowth but that is a big drive on wanting to get them. I'm excited to view the forum in my free time!!

Hello from Virginia :welcome
I started with horses & a mule, then chickens, then goats (that didn't last!), then cows. Got someone trying to sell me a mammoth donkey at the moment... I really miss the Good Morning braying, but I've got bigger money pits to fill this summer. 🤣
I'm looking forward to hearing about your adventures.
I used to wonder why in the world people would START with goats since they are so hard to contain. Then I finally realized that once you've got your farm goat-proof, you can pretty much toss anything else in there an not worry about it getting loose

Hi, welcome from Central Indiana! :frow

What kind of geese do you have? Mine are Chinese.

When my husband retires in a few years, we plan to move as far from the suburbs as we can get. He is partial to Southern Indiana, but I think I am about as far south as I can stand already. (We are from Michigan originally.)

I’ll probably compromise and go one hour south.

We aren't 100 % sure. So when we bought the property we inherited about 25ish geese that the gentleman here before us was feeding. I don't know if they were originally wild or if they were brought on the property from him but they never leave. But they don't come up to us unless we have bread haha. We took some of there eggs they laid and stuck them under a couple that went broody and raised them since the day they hatched. We are thinking they are either white Pomeranian or Embden. I'll see if I can post a picture of the big flock
