I have a French lop and 8, 3-week old babies  in a cage. My problem is that mommy is a pig :( !! I feed her oats and pellets, but as soon as I put the food in her dish she takes a bite then digs alot out, then takes a bite again and then digs again. She does this every time. So I fed her only pellets ( thinking she did not like the oats) but she still does it!!! She is waisting so much food, and I don't know what to do. When I come to feed her she is always very hungary because she digs all the food out.
Soon the babies will want to try food, but mommy is such a pig they won't get a chance to. HELP!!!

Are you putting the oats in with the pellets? Mine will dig the pellets out to find the oats so I feed them seperately. You can try putting a dish under the feeder to catch everything she dumps out. That is what I had to do with one of our does.

I've been having the same problem with a doe and in the grow out pen. terri9630- you just saved me alot of money! I don't know why I never thought to put something under it to catch the waste. Thanks for the idea!

Yes, I put just pellets in, but that did not stop her.
I would try to put a dish under, but her 'dittles' would get in that food. And then I know she would dig it out. :(

somewhere i read you can put some wire ove the feeder, holes are big enough to eat thru, but the wire prevents the digging

I just pull any poo that gets in the food out and she can deal with it.

2 of my 3 French Lops were digging food out of their bowls too.

You might try putting a lot less food in her bowl and adding to it throughout the day when it gets really low. Doing this has fixed the problem for me.

Good luck.

Yes this was what I tried and she instantly stopped! And she stopped all of her nasty bitting! So I now think it had to do with her attitude problem after she had her babies. She is now very sweet. :love
