I was wondering if anyone knows of any good herd management software programs that are easy to use and can be used for multiple species. I've tried several of the alpaca-specific programs out there and haven't had any luck with any of them.

Needs to be:
-easy to use
-have good customer service/support
-useable for multiple species
-not extremely expensive
-and it would be nice if it could be used on a Mac, though we do have a PC we could use it on

I have a breeding herd of 20+ alpacas, 2 pet ponies, and I'll have 15 ducks & 2 geese next year.

Do you have a word processor such as OpenOffice? You can use tables. You fill in the top row with what info goes in each row and you fill it in! Very easy if you have a word processor.

I can make a few recommendations, depends on your needs. If you want just to enter animal tag id's and just enter some info, you can use your basic excel, although you are limited to feasability of microsoft and it is just stored information, not a database or management system. You would be better off to invest in software there is some that is cheap on the market and you get good results.

Word of caution: there is many softwares on the market that are old and were developed years ago and not really good or user friendly.

I am currently researching and will do a thourough blog post on all livestock management softwares that are on the market, along with the pro's and con's of each one. This is in process now, so keep an eye out on my blog for the info in the near future.

You can contact me by email and I can recommend a few now.

We have developed one and there is a free demo to see how it works. It works with animals A to Z for feed, production , meds, income and expense, breeding and pedigrees. It even even has reports for pregnancy and breeding to keep you up to date

If you decide to purchase it's only 9.99 per year. Its worth way more than what we charge for it. Using it ourselves we have made a lot more money this year then last.

The software and data are on line and backed up daily so the user never has to worry about the computer they are using crashing.

More details and the demo link can be found on this page:

There are also free record keeping forms at the link too.

I downloaded the kintraks on my Mac. It would not work on my Linux and I don't use windows for much of anything. Kintraks is a nice little program and well worth the free program.
